I am learning how to skateboard, I said.
When my Italian boss of about forty asked me who’s rickety skateboard was hogging the space behind the counter. He reminds me of a pitbull.
He laughed but I could feel the tension in my thighs from four hours spent skating between the paths in the forest reservation.
I’m trying to say,
I want to become some force of nature on a four wheel piece of wood. I want to fall on my knees and watch them bleed as my skirt flies with the wind.
I want to defy the rules of feminity at first glance but I want you to love me for being pure.
I was told to lose myself years ago and I’m deciding to reclaim it.
This is me telling you that I am now going to unleash myself in some part of the world that you cannot see. I will be unnoticed, happy, and creating— far away from ruin.
